Dark Psychology
The Art of Manipulation
Suspicion grows around a teacher whose wife goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. The missing case of his wife, a children's book author, becomes sensational news all over the media. Ill-concealed evidence of struggle around the house, cleaned bloodstains, an apathetic husband who’s also known to be an unfaithful partner, allege him as the prime suspect in the murder of his wife. The case takes a dramatic shift when the truth is unearthed.
Rings a bell? Of course, who could ever forget the world premiere of Gone Girl, which was released in 2016. The story of a serial manipulator who concocted an elaborate plan to frame her husband as her murderer. From creating fake scenarios, fabricating a diary with a false narrative of abuse, and her made-up pregnancy, all of what she did, adds up to the malicious sociopath that she is.
The movie had widespread acclaim with positive reviews from critics mainly about the character trait of Amy - the missing wife, an intellect who tumbles into the abyss of willful denial. The script unfolds into a tale of deception, betrayal, and immorality.
So why do people do what they do? What are the factors that affect an individual's personality? How easy is it to convince someone? Why are you easily convinced? These questions and many more, which prick you now and then, have several explanations. Every Single Day, most of the choices we make are, in one way or the other, influenced by someone. While manipulation in itself isn’t the villain here, the act of manipulating someone, which could either be by offense or defense, is the culprit.
The power of each individual to manipulate or victimize oneself is the basis of Dark Psychology. It’s a phenomenon of using coercion tactics, persuasion, and manipulation to get what they want, and its malevolent qualities explain why it’s categorized as ‘Dark.’
On the brighter side, Dark Psychology doesn’t necessarily have to stay true to its name. Keeping evil aside, we all know that at some point, persuading people for your good or theirs isn’t so bad at all. Perhaps, convincing your boss to get you a promotion you certainly deserve or asking your friend a favor are some of the things you’d want to analyze and learn.
That brings us to what this book entails primarily. Dark psychology is not fiction; it’s a phenomenon still thriving in different forms through different people. This book allows you to understand the inherent pros and cons of psychological traits and help you unravel or resolve them independently. Allow me to take you into the dark side of human consciousness.
