Starry Night

Van Gogh was intriguing and more complex than I thought. It wasn't just his paintings, he wrote letters, which were one of the most valuable documents in the world of art. Know why? he painted in his letters; his art was everywhere, in his words too. I read an excerpt from the book A life in letters, in which Vincent writes to his dearest brother Theo.

The letter was dated September 1884.

"Something has happened, Theo, which most of the people here know or suspect nothing about — nor may ever know, so keep as silent as the grave about it — but which is terrible. Miss Begemann has taken poison".

Begemann was Vincent's 13-year-old neighbor.

"She had often said to me when we were taking a quiet walk or something, ‘I wish I could die now’ — I’d never paid attention to it."

The letter was tormenting. It was also a breakthrough because 137 years later, nothing's changed.
I mean, who wouldn't have said "I wish I could die now" to themselves?

Anyway, if it weren't for these letters, my guitar wouldn't have felt its 5th layer of fresh acrylic colors.
The Starry Night.
