On days like these...

On days like these, I sit on the terrace, basking under some sunlight but also feeling the cold warmth of the floor. cold-warmth, the feeling you get while you're under your blanket with one foot outside. On days like these, I watch my neighbours while I sip from my cup of green tea. Damp clothes swaying in the wind, kids on the terrace flying kites, the sound of wind chimes from my neighbour's balcony, and the sight of an old couple watering their plants. On days like these, I think what could have happened if everything ended differently, if movies, books, incidents had different endings. Narayani and Basheer would have shared glances at the hospital that they were destined to meet, the walls never in between them. Maybe Augustus Waters never did die, what if both Hazel and he were free from cancer and that could've been a start to a happily ever after. How would the movie end if Saajan Fernandes and Ila just met on that train and ran away to Bhutan and if MD Shyama took Amudha to their small village in Mankulam? We could possibly think of a million endings but what makes a movie, a book, or an incident memorable is for the way it is. Had it ended any differently, would we feel the same?
